TRAUMA
You are on a road side and a car over runs somebody. What are you most likely to do? used to ask Prof RV Singh with a smile on his face. The answer quite obvious but not coming to anyone was - PANIC. Then he used to define Panic as a state where you desperately want to do something but do not know what to do. The treatment of PANIC was plan and so we, (he and us), the class started planning what to do. You can add detract or modify he used to say but a plan we must have and that plan we must practice for it to become our reflex. Funding Prehospital care, training first responders costs us Rs400/- per Disability adjusted Life Year (DALY) saved in contrast to Rs 14000/- invested in Hospital and Rs 40000/- non recurring in prevention. With these loving memories of that Great Teacher these lectures on Trauma are made. The ability to incorporate them into your reflexes will truly impart you the characteristics of a Sankatmochan - Destroyer of Disaster.

INFECTIONS:
Nobody fears infections more than an orthopaedic surgeon. Should a surgeon be brave, Lion Hearted. All of us in the class used to raise our hands in agreement. No used to be the answer with this sentence following. If a soldier is brave he risks his own life but if a surgeon is brave he risks the life of the patient. So a surgeon should never be brave. Prevention is the key strategy to deal with infections. And not opening simple fractures until it is absolutely necessary is the most important take home message coming from this extremely important attitude. You don't introduce infection by opening a fracture treatable conservatively.
