Principles of Investigations

1. To rule in-rule out amongst Diagnosis and Differential Diagnosis

2. Detailing study of Cause Effect Association

3. Assess  Anaesthesia and surgery risks and Rehabilitation Potential

4.  Simple, low cost, less invasive or risky, doable and interpretable first then escalate if really needed.

5. Know the Test Characteristics if using surrogate Investigation  Like Sensitivity, Specifity, Positive/negative predictive values,  Positive negative Likelihood ratios

6. Think of all categories- Hematological, Pathological, Histological, Microbiological, Immunological, Biochemical, Genetic studies and imaging- Xray, Ultrasound, CT Scan, MRI, PET Scan, Nuclear Scan but choose as per criteria in point 4
